How will the Main Street connector impact Little River

Can anyone tell me how they believe the new Main Street connector will impact our community?

I think that, if we just go by North Myrtle Beach's future land use plan, they will most definitely be annexing the land west of the waterway surrounding the Main Street connector. All land requested to be annexed by property owners and developers (not in that immediate Main Street connector area) has been accepted as well. The connector will just facilitate annexations across the waterway, I believe. I don't see them rejecting any property west of the waterway for any reason.

Can anyone give me factual information on the annexation of property by the main street connector other than the bahama resort property that is now, I believe, in question? There are many residential areas by that connector that need 75% of the property owners to ask for annexation. I really don't think that will happen do you? Maybe property like bahama resort where the developer is looking for something but look how all that turned out. Rumor has it that those two men may be facing criminal charges from what I understand. Where else can it go down toward the Little River seaports. Annexation would have to go through the waterway villas first, then all those private homes, and on and on. The group against incorporation is also against annexation so why not join forces against annexation. We don't need to incorporate for that to come about. Most of the concerned citizens against incorporation will most probably work also against annexation from what I hear. We also have understood that no property can be skipped over. The only annexation I see to be happening on the agenda of the NMB Council is the property by 22 to the grand dunes area and this is since Jan. 2008 it keeps getting tabled. I don't see that NMB is any hurry to grab up the land.

Caroline,

The Keep Little Free website doesn't reflect that the group is against annexations.

The main page of the site gives me the impression that:

1) annexation is just a scare tactic, it's not happening.
2) it's OK to annex if a developer wants to (instead of the 75% rule)

As to #1, there were 9 --NINE-- annexation requests in 2007, all of which passed.

And there were 2 PRE-annexation agreements reached with large developments, for when they DO become contiguous.

As to #2, doesn't matter the method -- we've been losing parcels, and will continue to lose parcels, of Little River unless something changes.

Caroline,
NMB may not have to annex all that property.
They may also purchase some, just as they've been purchasing strategic parcels for a few years now.

Here is their future land use map:
http://nmb.us/html/info/depts/CompPlan/ ... UseMap.pdf

All the colored areas are where they put in a great deal of time planning for future use.
Notice the area west of the waterway and surrounding the Main Street connector?
Notice how it's bounded on the right by the failed Bahama Island project (this map was done before the project was exposed as a failure).

Now, further to the north (and west of the waterway), are the Kingsport Rd. properties (they're not on the map yet, because when they did this map, they hadn't been annexed yet).

I do believe there'll be a new future land use map done in the very near future that will include more land north of Hwy 9 and west of the water, as well as the 1362 acres to the south, of course.
